“Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God and only later counting the cost.” (Proverbs 20:25, NLT).
Promises, commitments and vows are meant to be kept. You should not make them without having the character or capacity to keep them. It is better you don’t make one than to make and not fulfil it. Promises were designed to be kept.
You should not agree to go into a relationship with someone without having the capacity to love and treat them nicely. You make marriage vows at the alter only for you to renege on fulfilling your marital responsibilities. Many have placed their careers or businesses over their family.
In the same way, you should not make vows to God and refuse to redeem them. Many have taken this part for granted. May be because the vows are made to an unseen God who might not be there physically to remind you of them. Do not be deceived, making vows and promises are spiritual principles with consequences both when you redeem them and when you don’t.
Never allow anyone to press buttons on your psyche to make you make commitments you have no capacity fulfil. Not with your relationships, not even in the church. You know yourself and what you are capable of doing. Vows made to God must be redeemed. Do not trap yourself, count the cost first. There are consequences to making commitments without fulfilling them. Lovely Sunday my friend. #BeInspired.
