“Once again the Philistines were at war with Israel. And when David and his men were in the thick of battle, David became weak and exhausted.” (2 Samuel 21:15, NLT).
David was a King and a great warrior. He was always at the front-line of every battle Israel went to. That speaks of great leadership. The type that leads by example. Not the type that uses position to send others to battle whilst sitting at home. A great leader stands up to face challenges and he does it with others behind him.
At this point David was getting old and was no longer as strong and swift as before. In the midst of battle he became weak and exhausted. Ishbi-benob, the Philistine he was fighting with was determined to kill him. But Abishai one of his soldiers stepped in.
The bible records thus, “But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue and killed the Philistine. Then David’s men declared, “You are not going out to battle with us again! Why risk snuffing out the light of Israel?” (2 Samuel 21:17, NLT).
You don’t need friends who will criticise, discourage, talk you out of your dreams, tear down your confidence and self esteem. Do not surround yourself with negative people. Associate with men of strength and character that will stand side by side with you to fight the battles of life. And most of all watch your back. The right association is key to a successful 2015. Great year ahead my friend. #BeInspired.
