“And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:27, NLT).
A true disciple is a follower of Jesus. Someone who imitates Christ in words and in deeds. During His days on earth Jesus had disciples who listened to His teaching and followed Him wherever He went. But on one occasion He had to let people know what it meant to be His disciple.
Jesus Himself said you cannot be His disciple if you don’t carry your cross to follow Him. Carrying a cross to follow someone is scary to me if you ask. This is because a cross is a symbol of crucifixion. Therefore if you must be a true disciple of Jesus, you must be ready to die daily.
Death here is in the sense of subduing your flesh. Things that make so much noise that they silence God’s will. Your personal desires, personal goals and ambitions have to be put under God’s purpose for your life. It means completely living for Him. You must know that the place of crucifixion is not fun. It’s a place where you’ll have to shed your blood. It is a place of pain.
There is really a difference between believing in Jesus and being His disciple. Discipleship is the step higher. To follow Jesus, you’ve got to be ready to give up all for Him. Obeying His commands and loving His children must be your priority. Are you a true disciple? Great day my friend. #BeInspired.
